America's Car-Mart, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRMT) Reports Losses Amid Weaker Sales, Charge-Off Pressure, and Legal Scrutiny
- America's Car-Mart, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRMT) reported weaker fourth-quarter and full-year fiscal 2026 results, with revenue declining as sales volumes fell.
- The company’s full-year sales volume dropped 14.3% to 48,891 units, while net charge-offs increased to 27.6% of average finance receivables.

America's Car-Mart, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRMT) sells used vehicles and provides financing to customers, operating in the “buy here, pay here” segment of the automotive market. The company recently reported financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended April 30, 2026, showing pressure from lower vehicle sales, credit losses, and liquidity concerns.
For the fourth quarter, America's Car-Mart reported total revenue of $302.8 million, down 18.2% year-over-year. The decline was mainly driven by lower retail unit volume, partially offset by a 5.7% increase in average retail sales price to $20,138.
For the full fiscal year, total revenue decreased 7.9% to $1.28 billion. Sales volume fell 14.3% to 48,891 units, reflecting a smaller active dealership base, lower inventory purchases, and store consolidations.
The company posted a full-year diluted loss per share of $16.79, compared with diluted earnings per share of $2.33 in the prior year. For the fourth quarter, diluted loss per share was $3.56, compared with diluted earnings per share of $1.26 a year earlier.
Credit performance also remained under pressure. Net charge-offs rose to 27.6% of average finance receivables for fiscal 2026, up from 25.9% in the prior year. Net charge-offs represent loans that the company no longer expects to collect, making this an important metric for a business that combines vehicle sales with customer financing.
America's Car-Mart also recorded $208.1 million in SG&A expenses for the fiscal year, including $4.0 million in restructuring-related charges. The company also reported an $11.0 million non-cash impairment related to dealership consolidations.
In addition to the financial pressure, Rosen Law Firm is investigating potential securities claims on behalf of America’s Car-Mart shareholders. The firm said the investigation relates to allegations that the company may have issued materially misleading business information. Rosen Law is preparing a potential class-action lawsuit seeking recovery of investor losses, adding another area of concern for shareholders.
