Flutter Entertainment Stock Downgraded Amidst Earnings Miss and Leadership Transition

• Citigroup downgraded Flutter Entertainment (NYSE: FLUT) to Neutral due to recent negative developments.
• The sports betting and gaming giant experienced a significant earnings miss and a leadership change, leading to a 13% stock decline.
• Flutter Entertainment cut its full-year U.S. profit guidance by 22%, while its key brand FanDuel faces market share loss.

Flutter Entertainment (NYSE: FLUT), a prominent global sports betting and gaming company known for major brands like FanDuel, PokerStars, and Paddy Power, recently faced a significant shift in its investment outlook. On August 6, 2026, leading investment firm Citigroup changed its stock rating on Flutter Entertainment from Outperform to Neutral. At the time of this change, the stock price was $93.01.

This stock downgrade by Citigroup follows a period of negative developments for the gaming industry giant. As highlighted by CNBC, Flutter Entertainment shares fell 13% after a significant earnings miss and a major leadership change. These events have created considerable investor uncertainty around the company's future performance and likely influenced Citigroup's decision to adopt a more cautious stance on the sports betting stock.

Flutter Entertainment reported second-quarter earnings of $0.49 per share, significantly falling short of the $0.60 analysts expected. This represents a substantial decrease from the $2.95 per share reported in the same quarter last year. This performance resulted in what Zacks termed an earnings surprise of -15.52%, indicating that the company's financial results were significantly below forecasts.

Adding to growing investor concerns, Flutter Entertainment also announced a cut to its full-year U.S. profit guidance by 22%. The company now expects adjusted earnings of $760 million. Adjusted earnings, commonly referred to as EBITDA, is a crucial metric that measures a company's operating profit before non-operating expenses like interest and taxes are deducted, providing a clearer view of core business performance.

This challenging outlook is further complicated by a significant leadership transition, as CEO Peter Jackson is set to depart. This change comes at a critical time, as FanDuel, Flutter Entertainment's most important U.S. business, is experiencing market share loss. As highlighted by The Wall Street Journal, Flutter Entertainment acknowledges these business struggles and plans to invest heavily to regain its competitive position in the U.S. sports betting market.
