Spectral AI (NASDAQ:MDAI) Navigates Commercial Transition After FDA Clearance

• Spectral AI's Q2 earnings reported an EPS of -$0.13, slightly beating estimates, but revenue of $3.52 million missed expectations as the company transitions to commercial operations.
• The company is focused on building its commercial infrastructure for the DeepView System following FDA clearance, aiming for first sales by late 2026.
• Despite a cash position of $14.0 million, Spectral AI faces liquidity challenges with a current ratio of 0.90, indicating current liabilities exceed assets.

Spectral AI (NASDAQ:MDAI) is an artificial intelligence company that develops medical diagnostic tools for wound care. Its main product is the DeepView System, an AI-driven imaging device. This system is designed to give doctors an immediate and accurate assessment of how a burn wound will heal, helping to improve patient treatment decisions.

After the market closed on August 11, 2026, Spectral AI reported its quarterly results. The company announced an earnings per share (EPS) of -$0.13, which was slightly better than the market's expectation of -$0.135. This negative EPS is reflected in its price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of -4.90, which shows the company is not currently profitable.

The company's revenue for the quarter was $3.52 million, falling short of the estimated $4.17 million. According to its earnings call transcript published by Seeking Alpha, this is because Spectral AI is transitioning to commercial operations. The company maintains its full-year revenue guidance of approximately $18.5 million, which does not yet assume major sales from its new system.

This transition follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) clearance of its DeepView System in May. CEO Vincent Capone stated that this allows Spectral AI to begin a disciplined commercial rollout. The company is now focused on building its commercial infrastructure and aims for its first sales by the end of 2026.

Financially, Spectral AI reported a cash position of $14.0 million. However, its current ratio stands at 0.90. The current ratio measures a company's ability to pay its short-term debts, indicating its liquidity. A ratio below 1.0, like Spectral AI's, indicates that its current liabilities are greater than its current assets.
