Workday (NASDAQ: WDAY) is a major provider of cloud-based software for enterprise human resources, payroll, and financial management solutions. The company supports a loyal customer base of over 11,500 organizations. This includes well-known global companies like Netflix and US Bank, which use its enterprise software for essential business operations.

Recently, shares of Workday experienced a significant surge of over 20% following a report highlighted by Reuters. The report indicated that private equity firm Silver Lake is in discussions to acquire the company. A private equity firm invests in companies, often taking them private to improve their operations before a potential future sale, impacting stock performance and market valuation.

This acquisition interest provided a boost to Workday's stock, which had been down approximately 15% for the year. The decline was partly due to investor fears about competition from new artificial intelligence (AI) tools. Silver Lake reportedly sees Workday as a valuable, cash-generating asset that is trading at a discount, presenting a compelling investment opportunity.

On August 14, 2026, an analyst from Lake Street set a price target of $205.00 for Workday. A price target is an analyst's estimate of a stock's fair value in the future, influencing investor sentiment and market outlook. At the time the target was set, the stock's price had risen to $206.45 due to the acquisition news, reflecting strong market reaction to the potential private equity investment.
