United Natural Foods (NYSE:UNFI) is a major wholesale distributor of natural, organic, and specialty foods in North America. The company supplies a wide range of products to various retail customers, including conventional supermarkets and natural product stores. United Natural Foods operates in a competitive grocery sector where profit margins can be thin and subject to pressure.

On September 10, 2026, analyst firm Roth Capital kept its Neutral rating and hold action for United Natural Foods. This stock rating suggests the firm believes the stock is fairly valued at its current price. Roth Capital also increased its price target on the stock to $45.00 from $43.00. This new target is very close to the stock's price of $44.61 at the time.

The company's performance is very sensitive to small changes in its EBITDA margin. EBITDA, or Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization, is a measure of operating profitability. As highlighted by Seeking Alpha, while a recent margin rebound is positive, there is still uncertainty about how much more margins can grow in the future.

This neutral view comes after United Natural Foods announced strong fourth-quarter results for fiscal 2026. As reported by Zacks, the company posted adjusted earnings of $0.69 per share. This figure beat analyst estimates and was a significant improvement from a loss of $0.11 per share in the same quarter of the previous year.

Despite a small 0.7% dip in net sales to $7.64 billion, United Natural Foods' gross margin improved to 13.7%, and its adjusted EBITDA saw a large jump of 48.3%. Looking ahead, the company projects adjusted earnings for fiscal year 2027 to be between $3.00 and $3.50 per share, showing confidence in its future performance.
