Pinterest (NYSE: PINS) Stock Analysis: RBC Capital's Neutral Stance Amidst Strong User Growth

• RBC Capital's "Sector Perform" Rating: Analyst firm RBC Capital maintains a neutral "Sector Perform" rating for Pinterest, akin to a "hold" recommendation, despite the company's strong second-quarter financial performance.
• Robust Financials and User Engagement: Pinterest reported impressive revenue of $1.18 billion, an 18% year-over-year increase, and adjusted earnings per share of $0.43, both exceeding market forecasts. The platform also achieved a record 640 million monthly active users.
• Market Concerns Over Future Growth: Despite current strength, the stock experienced an over 8% decline in extended trading due to a third-quarter revenue growth forecast of 13% to 15%, which implies a slower growth trajectory compared to previous periods.

Pinterest (NYSE: PINS) is a leading visual discovery engine where users find inspiration for their interests and hobbies. The company generates revenue primarily through advertising on its platform. On August 5, 2026, analyst firm RBC Capital issued its "Sector Perform" rating for Pinterest, which is similar to a "hold" recommendation for the stock, reflecting a cautious outlook on its market performance.

The "Sector Perform" rating suggests that the stock is expected to perform in line with its industry peers. This neutral investment view comes even as the company's latest financial results exceeded expectations. Pinterest's revenue reached $1.18 billion, marking an 18% increase from the previous year, and its adjusted earnings per share were $0.43, comfortably beating analyst forecasts.

In addition to the rating, RBC Capital raised its price target for Pinterest to $25.00 from $23.00. A price target represents an analyst's estimate of a stock's future valuation. This new target is slightly below the stock's price of $25.58 at the time, suggesting the analyst sees limited upside potential from the current share price.

Despite strong operational performance, including a record 640 million monthly active users as highlighted by Proactiveinvestors.co.uk, the stock faces market pressure. The share price fell over 8% in extended trading. This decline in Pinterest's stock is mainly attributed to the company's third-quarter revenue forecast, which implies a slower growth rate of 13% to 15%, raising concerns among investors about future growth prospects.

While RBC Capital maintains a neutral stance on Pinterest's stock, other investment analysis views exist. An analysis by GuruFocus considers Pinterest "Significantly Undervalued," with a fair value estimate of $44.35. However, it is also notable that company insiders recently sold $18.5 million worth of shares, with no insider buying reported in the same period, which can sometimes signal a lack of confidence from those closest to the company's operations.
